You might ask how we design a logo for a sign
or vehicle graphic, Well you might be surprised at the answer. A lot of
times we break out the old paper and pencil and go to it modifying by trial
and error till we get the desired result that the customer is happy with.
The design is then scanned
or we take a digital photo of it and then transport it into the computer for
text or modification. Once we get it into the computer we can manipulate
the image by stretching skewing to get to the look we need. The image as transferred can be traced by hand to digitize it In the computer.
We can add color or any style of text and move things around to ours and
the customers liking. After we have gotten approval from the customer
for production we take the finished vector format image and send it to
the vinyl cutter for cutting in the vinyl of the customers choice. A lot of people ask why I would possibly want to draw something by hand when there are so many computer drawing programs available to do this type of work in the computer. The answer is not that complicated, I guess I'm just a little old school when it comes to certain things and I have a better artistic grasp on certain things such as when I draw with a pencil and paper than when I draw with a mouse or digitizing stylus. I guess the next step will be to buy a Wacom tablet such as the Cintiq which allows the user to draw directly on a computer digitizing tablet that is a computer monitor.This type of digitizing is more intuitive to the artist who must make the direct connection from the brain to the hand.The only problem with this is exorbitant cost of around $2500 for this luxury. These types of vinyl stick on designs are very suitable for storefront windows or vehicle graphics where large flat or unbroken areas are available for advertising exploitation.
