What woods are used to make signs
A UNITED STATES COMPANY WITH ALL U.S. PRODUCTS
Answer: When you design or consider a new sign there must be a fine
balance struck between durability and cost. In a perfect world we would
just forget about cost and go for the best sign lumber which allows machineability
and weather durability. When we design the high end sign that displays the
natural beauty of wood grain while having resistance to wood rot and weather
decay, we will usually choose central American and African hardwoods such
as mahogany oak or walnut. These woods can be machined and finished to a
high degree of precision and quality. A high end alternative to these exotic
woods is High density urethane foam. At the other end of the cost spectrum
are common softwoods which are not quite as durable as the exotic hardwoods.
Softwoods while having some durability and machining shortcomings also have
some notable plusses which cannot be ignored. For one softwoods are very
cheap and are also very plentiful. We can go to the local lumber yard to
acquire most common softwoods while same cannot be said for most hardwoods.
Pinewood can and is used for some signs and these woods and plywood's can
be used as the backing for other sign mediums such as self adhesive printed
vinyl or cut peel and stick vinyl and banner material. Plywood can also
be painted with high durability paint which can last for many years.
